Membership Testimonial
I have been a member of the Wimmer Cemetery Association from its inception. I first came with the idea of cleaning, cutting grass and weeds, etc. to make it look somewhat respectable. After the cleaning was done that day, we sat down and talked about the cemetery. It was then that the crew that came together on that first day decided that they wanted something more. And so, we grew into an association with intent to meet regularly and not only keep the cemetery clean, but to restore it as far as possible, to provide a history of the names of those buried there and who they were. It has been greatly satisfying for me to see such a hallowed place, which had become so neglected and disgraced, once again show a face of dignity and love befitting the surrounding community and the cemetery residents.
Not only is there satisfaction and pride in the physical beauty of the cemetery, but I have also enjoyed the friendship of the members. From them, I have heard stories of the early pioneers buried in Wimmer and have a renewed interest in learning about my own ancestors and always find willing listeners and advice when I get stuck on my ancestral research. It is with great hope for the future of the cemetery that I encourage others to get involved. ~ Jane King
